The Best Mountain BikeIf you are an avid bike rider, or perhaps you are looking for a great bike for your child this year there are many tips for buying one. There are a couple things to look for when seeking a quality mountain bike. The first is to always go through your local bike shop as opposed to obtaining one through a major department store. While you may find a mountain bike for a great price at one these stores, many times you find ones that are assembled properly. When you buy through a bike shop, you can shop with ease knowing the bikes are assembled correctly.

Get a mountain bike that suits your needs as far as riding is concerned.  If you will be riding mostly on rough or bumpy terrain, then you need to look into the type of suspension your mountain bike will have. Do not purchase a bike that is light weight to ride on trails or surfaces that are like this as it will not hold up very well. Next, and this is just as important for adults as it is for children, get a mountain bike that fits your size. It occurs all too often when people see a bike they like and it is entirely too big for them, this can encourage accidents and a child falling off of the bike which is not what any parent wants. Have the bike specialist at the store fit you or your child on the bike to ensure it is the correct height and size.

One crucial element to any type of bike is that is has stable and reliable braking.  When you are riding a mountain bike you tend to place even more pressure on them than the traditional bikes on the streets today. Disc brakes are common as well as pull brakes that are mechanical for mountain bikes. You may not be able to locate the weight of the mountain bike you are considering to purchase, but do inquire with the employees at the bike shop to at least determine the wheel weight. This is important to find out so that you know just how smooth and flawless your ride will be.

Finally, you must always consider what type of budget you are working with when buying your mountain bike. If you buy a bike that suits your budget but was not the quality you were looking for, you may result in having to pay for repairs later or even buying parts to replace some of yours. Keep in mind that mountain bike riding is not as easy on a bike as riding on the street. The bike will have to be able to last long and not fall apart after you have spent the afternoon riding in the dirt or up and down many hills. Depending on where you elect to buy the mountain bike you may be able to pick up a warranty or a protection plan to cover any unsightly repairs. Always keep your sales slips and wear a helmet to ensure safe a ride as well.
