How to Clean Your Grill
Cooking outdoors is a great way to bring your family together and enjoy a delicious meal during the warmer months. While grilling and being outside is great fun, you have to make sure you are cleaning your grill properly. When you do not clean it well or enough your food will not taste the way it should and you can also become very ill from leaving food particles on the grill.
To begin cleaning your grill take off the grates and rinse them with water first. Next you will need to allow them to soak in a bin or in the sink filled with warm water and a mild dish washing soap. For gas grills you will have to take all of the rocks and briquettes to clean out all of the ash and any debris left behind from grilling. Wipe the area clean with a wet paper towel and place all of the items back into the grill. You can also spray the inside of the grill with an oil that you would commonly use in for cooking. Once you place those grates back inside the grill you should allow it to dry out by leaving the top open and getting all of those fumes and smells from cooking various dishes inside the grill all summer long. Do not use the grill until it has completely dried which should only take around fifteen minutes.
They do sell several products to help clean your grill more effectively. Some days you may cook on your grill and not feel like cleaning it afterward. While this is fine as long as you clean it well the following day or later that night, you may need to use a bit of the cleaning solutions to get all of the built up food off of the grill. These can come in sprays that you leave on and they begin to get to work on the grates and get some of that difficult debris trapped on the grates off before you even have to wipe it off. Some do advertise that they are much better products than they truly are, but you can find some that are very useful and can cut back on the amount of time or effort needed to scrub the grill grates. If your grill has jets, be sure to unclog them and clean them as well. You may need to replace the burner over time and try to coat your grill prior to cooking with a light oil spray to ensure your foods come right off the grill smoother and also to make the cleaning process much easier. If you clean your grill on a daily or weekly basis you will find it is much simpler to maintain and the more you clean it the shorter amount of time it takes to clean each time. Always rinse off your grates if you can. Especially after you have used it cook fish or vegetables that can leave behind a strong odor.
